Earth Day 2012

The 42nd Anniversary  Earth Day 2012 campaign is designed to provide people with the opportunity to unite their voices in a call for a sustainable future and direct them towards quantifiable outcomes. From Myanmar to Washington, D.C., people turned out to draw attention to global efforts to protect the planet.

For Earth Day 2012 we are mobilizing the planet simply to say one thing:- the Earth won't wait. It seems that environmental issues have been put on the back burner as we are in the midst of a global recession. It is time for us to Mobilize the Earth™ and speak with one voice, one message.

The 100th anniversary of Titanic

The 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic is being remembered at events across the world, including in the ship's birthplace Belfast, Northern Ireland. A plaque featuring the names of those who died was unveiled in the Titanic Memorial Garden and no distinction on the memorial between first-class passengers and others on board. The names of the dead are listed in alphabetical order.Thousands attended or listened to the Belfast service, which was held at the city hall.
On MS Balmoral cruise ship passengers and crew said prayers at the spot in the North Atlantic where the Titanic sank with the loss of more than 1,500 lives.Passengers lined the decks of MS Balmoral, which has been retracing the route of the doomed voyage. After a moment of silence, three floral wreaths were cast onto the waves as the ship's whistle sounded in the dark.
The sinking is also being remembered in other parts of the globe including New York, which had been the Titanic's intended destination.

World Water Day 2012

THE World Water Day is an annual event celebrated every March 22 and it grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The World Water Day, which has a theme annually, has as theme this year, ‘Water and Food Security’ and as such, the programme this year is hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

According to the United Nation's report states that there are seven billion people to feed on the planet today and another two billion are expected to join by 2050. When a billion people in the world already live in chronic hunger and water resources are under pressure we cannot pretend the problem is 'elsewhere'.

The United Nations, on the occasion of this year's World Water Day, urged people to note that, coping with population growth and ensuring access to nutritious food to everyone call for a series of actions we can all help with.

Such actions include following a healthier, sustainable diet; consuming less water-intensive products; reducing the scandalous food wastage as 30 per cent of the food produced worldwide is never eaten and the water used to produce it is definitively lost and producing more food, of better quality, with less water.
