Hazama Kanpei’s “Earth Marathon” - ハザマ寛平の"地球のマラソン

 Kanpei Hazama (間寛平 / HAZAMA Kanpei) is a Japanese actor, comedian, and singer. He was born on July 20, 1949 in Sukumo, Kochi prefecture. Kanpei Hazama who is  now 61, after sailing and running around the planet for the past two years,set foot on his native soil again. He actually proclaimed that "the Earth really is round"!

He set off in December 2008, first sailing across the Pacific then running across North America, sailing across the Atlantic, and putting on his running shoes again to traverse the Eurasian continent.A year ago in Turkey he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, forcing him to temporarily suspend the journey, but after receiving medical treatment in the United States he was back on the road in June.

With thousands of well-wishers greeted the television personality as he sailed from China to dock at Japan's
southwestern Fukuoka harbour in cold rain.Now, Hazama will start running toward his goal, Osaka-jo Ongakudo, and he hopes to make it by January 21st.

Japanese comedian Kanpei Hazama, with his wife Mitsuyo, waves as he arrives in Fukuoka on Japan's southern island of Kyushu on the final leg of his 'Earth Marathon'. Hazama started the run-and-sail trip around the world in December 2008, and is set to finish it in Osaka later this month.
